Love the book; enjoy the way Mem Fox can convey powerful emotions an feeling in such a simple, straight forward way. The artist she used for this book support the feelings of being loved depicting large outstretched hands. (Tough Boris is annother example of this talent!)

I adore this book, am reordering it after someone "borrowed" it from my classroom. It holds attention for the children (aged 2-5) who identify with the idea that once there was no them, and then there was! Powerful book about the process of life and death, particuarly in a family.

I gave this a 4 star for overall appearance etc, its looked almost new, otherwise the story is for not the grade I intended to use it for, its more pre-primer

Sophie is one of my absolute favorite books ever. The illustrations are glorious and the text is simple and beautiful. It speaks to the subject of death, although my kids love it as a book about the mysteries of aging, I think.

This is a striking portrayal of one family's strength and interconnectedness as Mem Fox brings to life the beautiful relationship between a grandfather and his beloved granddaughter. Through Robinson's brilliant illustrations and Fox's lilting text, the reader sees and hears the love and friendship develop as little Sophie grows into a woman while her grandfather grows older and more frail. The exaggerated hands in Robinson's drawings clearly depict the family's strength and reliance upon one another as a cohesive unit. SOPHIE is an absolutely charming story of love and companionship, as well as a gentle introduction for children to the circle of life.
