Great Sprinkler Base

I bought this as a replacement for one my dad has. I ran over the old one (OOPS!) and bent it up. I chose the 3/4" because it gives you more options on sprinkler heads. The base is very sturdy and well made. Great sprinkler base. They also have a 1/2" option

Four Stars

Works ok, just a bit flimsy

Great for large areas

I use these with a 3/4 inch riser about 12 inches high...top it with a rainbird 3/4 inch impact sprinkler head. Very nice to cover my 2 acre pasture with 8 of these . I would buy agai , excellent quality.

Yard Butler S-11 Step Spike Sprinkler Stand

Yard Butler S-11 Step Spike Sprinkler Stand I have tried a large variety of "spike" sprinkler stands that I can find locally. However, most of them seem to be made of very fragile metals that bend and eventually break when repeatedly inserted into the ground. I like to use various lengths of plastic 1/2" pipe and then attach a variety of sprinkler heads to water flowers, vegetables and/or grass. But, you also need a way to connect a hose to the spike. I like to use quick release fittings which enable me to easily and quickly attach and remove the hose. The Yard Butler S-11 Step Spike meets all my needs. It seems sturdy and the two spikes keeep my sprinkler steady even when I use a quite long length of pipe with a sprinkler head attached. The connection for the hose also seems sturdy and is made of metal. Unlike the single spike types that I have been using, I can step on this one assured that the long spikes won't work loose when the soil becomes moist and/or allow water to squirt at odd angles and into places I don't want to be watered.

Great Sprinkler Stand, BUT

This sprinkler stand is one of the best I've seen. It's quite sturdy and easy to step into the soil. It's also pleasing to the eye in the garden. The only problem is that the 1/2" threads where the sprinkler head attaches are malformed. MANY others have noted this defect - and it is something to pay attention to. If you get one with malformed threads and you attempt to screw a plastic sprinkler head into it, you will ruin the sprinkler head. I read in advance about this issue (in these amazon reviews) so was ready for the problem. I used a 1/2" pipe tap to clean up the threads. It was easy and worked like a charm. Not everyone is going to have a pipe tap lying around, so I think you could also use a piece of 1/2" threaded pipe for the same purpose. Clearly this a known issue and should not be necessary! However, once that issue was solved it was into the garden and awesome! I'm going to buy a few more - it's that good. But I will be ready for the re-threading when they arrive.

Build your own, quality part, not cheap plastic!

If you want to build your own sprinkler the old school way, one that will last like your Grandfathers, here is your base!I built my first one twenty years ago, using this base, and have built three more for my family since. These are bullet proof, and will last you a long, long time. One thing, make sure you have the correct pitch on your sprinkler head, or purchase an adapter before attempting to assemble this.Update; I've used this latest sprinkler (ten years old now) and the one I put together twenty-one years ago, without issue. The only thing I've done, to both, was to replace the washers. That's it!Build your own, don't bother with the plastic units, and be happy that you are making something from parts Made in the USA.It just doesn't get much better then that!!!

Ugh - problematic design, problematic QC

I saw a sprinkler stand with a 5-star average review, and thought I couldn't go wrong. Wow, has this thing frustrated me.The model I purchased had a manufacturing defect in the uppermost threads-- there was a deposit of extra material that rapidly shaved the threads off the (plastic) rainbird sprinkler head that I purchased to use with the stand. I was able to repair the threads with the judicious use of a center punch and a lot of elbow grease, but was very frustrated with the experience.I got it out into the yard today, and discovered the design flaw that should have been obvious from the picture. The side of the stake where the 'step' is located (the horizontal bar that you can use to get the spike into the ground) is directly under the part where the hose attaches. If you've already tightened your hose down, you're not going to want to undo that, but you're not going to be able to stomp on the step, either. So at best, you'll be able to put your bodyweight on the stake, but that won't do much to get it into hard ground.Between the manufacturing defect and the design flaw, I can't recommend it.

Purchased 3 of these far better than expected

Purchased 3 of these far better than expected, I use a brass bushing 1/2 to 3/4[ $1.25 from hardware store] works great

Looks very strong, but is a very poor design.

Do not buy, I bought two thinking that these all metal spikes would answer all my problems. The spike is steel and very strong, however the head is made of pot metal with the hose attachment swaged on. The first time I used it the hose attachment came off. The pot metal was holding in on with about a 1/16 of an inch of mystery metal. Looks great, works not very well. These are going back.

Flimsy

The stake part, that is supposed to go into the ground, bent the first time I stepped on it. The wire gauge of the material used to build the stake is to light for its intended purpose. Would NOT recommend.
