Worked exactly as described
Hard to say if there is a better or even as good of a product but since this was my very first attempt at sour dough mania and the starter worked as described, I have to give it 5 stars.Bit of an aside. Once you have your starter made, smear a very thin layer of it on parchment paper, wait for it to completely dry and voila....you have exactly what this product is for almost nothing.

Great starter, smells wonderful! Very active.
I got this ten days ago and started it immediately.It's now very active, smells wonderful.I've seen that some people had issues.Never use chlorinated tap water in starter. Boil tap water for 15 minutes and let cool to remove the chlorine, chlorine kills yeast!If your home is drafty or cold, sit a cardboard box over your starter.I keep my starter in a Sourdough Home, currently at 55° and feeding every other day.I've been using my discard for pancakes and biscuits, great eats!The photo is about three hours after feeding at 55°

Just try it! It works!
I was intimidated by sourdough for a year, I couldn’t get to start. But I decided to splurge on this culture to reduce the guess work. It has very easy to follow and simple directions . It doesn’t say how to bake the sourdough but it gets your starter going and it’s strong! It took me day 3 I started to make a loaf, I have been using this low for a week and making a (small) loaf a day as I wanted to perfect timing, folding, and methods. It has been so fool proof and sourdough is very forgiving!! Just go for it. This has made the start very easy and good for me to build my confidence and I was even able to build a nice started for a couple of friends. If you’re wondering if it works? It does!

A little slow waking up, but it’s live now!
Followed instructions. My house is a little cooler at this time of year than the yeast would like. So it took an extra day or so to get active, but it’s looking great and I’ll be able to bake this weekend.

It only rose one time
I've had this starter and been feeding it for 9 days now And it has only Barely rose one time. There were plenty of active bubbles.But now this morning I woke up and there was only two bubbles.

This starter kit is well worth the money, easy to use, and yields an excellent starter.
I have been sour dough baker for many Years and have kept starter alive for a very long time. But, I am aware that starters have many types of differing character. So, mostly out of curiosity I tried this starter kit to see what I got for my money. I was surprised. The "Formula", that is the proportion of flour to water for feeding the culture was different from what I am used to but I stuck to the instructions which yielded a useful starter culture within three days of my starting the process of the instructions. it yielded a starter that was thicker and denser than what I was used to, but also very robust. I store my starters in the fridge. This one is fed just before putting it away in the fridge, and when you take it out it warms quickly, comes back to life, and is useful without further feeding that day, then one discards the necessary amount and feeds again before putting it away. The discards can be used to start another culture to gift to friends or to use in biscuits, pancakes, etc. I certainly recommend this starter.
