Frontier Organic Seasoning, Berbere, 2.3 OunceUSDA Organic

Fantastic flavor, per usual (huge berbere fan here). Tastes very fresh, I'd say quality is about average, possibly better, but I'm really not an expert on that. I'm not completely certain it's the best purchase for value out there, but, due to its excellent flavor profile, I would buy again.

I am a home cook and like to cycle spices on common foods to keep it interesting. I was impressed with the co-ops certifications and I already love African food and was delighted to get this. It came packed tight, to the rim, fresh (as it was still soft and moist-ish) the mixed flavor so far has been great of vegetables, fish, and in a quinoa salad. Essentially in everything I have tried it on hot and cold. I will be using this spice up.

I am an Ethiopian food lover, and have been that way for over 20 years. Authentic Berbere does not have cinnamon, so this brand should market itself as berbere inspired! Nonetheless, this is a very tasty seasoning that works well as a dry rub! I recommend this brand for poultry, beef, and pork!

Bought this spice on a whim after going down the recipe rabbit hole on Pinterest. Pleasantly surprised! Great flavor and a nice kick of spice !

My partner and I have grown a fondness for Ethiopian style cuisine, which often requires Berbere. Ever since our local Ethiopian joint went out of business, we've been craving authentic, Ethiopian style dishes.Berbere is an interesting flavor, and it's very difficult to get just right. This does a pretty good job of getting what you're looking for in Ethiopian cooking, and it has a berbere taste. It's got a pinch too much cayenne and it's a little too sweet, but it gets the job done a lot better than most supermarket brand berbere spice blends will. If I were Frontier I'd get rid of some of the cayenne and pump up some of the other ingredients. Seems it's trying to sub for a generic Ethiopian taste by adding that much cayenne. What you want if you want spicy is a spice called Mitmita, which is the go to ingredient for Kitfo. It's also the spice powder you'll have on your dishes at many restaurants. You can even find a bit of it in your injera if they're doing it right. It also uses fresh ground chiles, which is a lot hotter than cayenne!...Obviously, this isn't authentic berbere, and it has a ton of salt... BUT. If what you're looking for is a nice Ethiopian base, this does it hands down and is very easy to get your hands on. It tastes kind of like berbere, which is more than I can say for most supermarket brand spice blends.
