Q: Can these be used with pleated paper shades instead of clothes pins?

I never tried. I imagine itt would depend on the type of lower edge. I don't know what type of bottom edge there is on the paper shades. ours is used in the kitchen, is made of vinyl (washable) and has a thin wooden slat at the bottom that this type of puller slides over. Hope this helps

I don't think so. They are designed to go over the bottom with a slender stick in the seam. they don't grip tight enough to use as a pull down on the side.
