So far - Excellent Shaver
Had a Braun series 5. Neck shave was poor and had to work at rest of face. Prior to that had a Phillips series 5 rotary shaver, shave quality not great hence tried the Braun! So as a final shot at a decent electric shave got this one based on reviews (not just amazon ones) as it has duel blades and rotates faster than any of their other models except the series 9000 (which appears to be the same spec level re blades and speed). The shave is very very good, smooth finish and takes very little time too. I got in a Today deal of some silly reduction of 76%, so paid £115 as opposed to over £400. Not sure I would ever pay full price at that level for a shaver (in fact I wouldn't!) but am very pleased at the price I paid and would recommend the shaver as a shaver, but as for the normal price well I guess you need to decide that!

Great close and comfortable shave
With this shaver I've finally got what I've been searching for over the last 20 years, a shaver that can give me a very close finish quickly and comfortably.Up to around 5 years ago I'd used lower end Philips shavers which did a reasonable job but never seemed to get close enough to really remove the 5 o'clock shadow look. They were fairly comfortably but I have sensitive skin and would get a little neck irritation. Then I decided to give the Panasonic range a go and went for a high end model promising sensors and other technology to achieve a close, comfortable shave. I immediately felt the loss of Philips' rotating, pivoting heads as the flat foils of the Panasonic just didn't get into nooks e.g. around the Adam's apple as well. I also found that whilst it perhaps gave a slightly closer appearance, it would take quite a number of passes to do this, irritate my skin in the process and struggle on anything more than a single day's growth. Using shaving foam helped but left me having to clean the thing after every use.Bring on the Philips 8000. I went for this model as it has the 72 cutting blades of the 8000 and 9000 model rather than the 45 of thr 7000 series and below and it also has the 150,000 cutting actions per minute rather than the lower model's 90,000 - in other words the 8000 seemed to have all the top end cutting features I was after without paying the extra for the 9000 series model.Straight away I've found the cut to be very close. This is certainly the nearest I've come to a proper wet shave and gets so close that I'd struggle to tell the difference. Using the 8000 series dry my face feels as smooth as it did when using the Panasonic with foam. It's also much quicker, doesn't struggle with a few days of growth and hasn't nicked my skin like the Panasonic did.The results have been so good that I've felt no need to reach for my shaving foam and this has saved on prep time, mess and cleaning a wet shaver. Talking of cleaning, this is a breeze with the 8000, I press a button to pop the head open, give the underside a 5 second brush (included with the kit) and it's done. I've so far cleaned the shaver once in a week and this felt about right even though the shaver wasn't flashing the clean light to ask for it.Battery seems great, I've still got 2 of the 3 bars of charge remaining so I've got no concerns that I'd need to take the charing cable if I went away for a week or two as long as I'd given it some juice before leaving. Charging can either be done with a dock or directly through a USB cable- standard USB which unfortunately has a proprietary end which attaches to the bottom of the shaver rather than a USBC which would be more convenient, but at least if you do want to charge this whilst away you only need to take a small extra USB cable with you rather than a dock or 2 pronged shaver cable. Some people have complained about the shaver not using a traditional shaving lead, but I'd much rather charge this using the supplied USB lead via a plug in my bedroom every few weeks rather than messing with shaving sockets and dangling leads in the bathroom. All in all a great shaver and one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. My search is over!Edit to update 06/04/2024: Just wanted to update this review to say:1) Cleaning remains hassle free, so simple to pop open the top, empty into the bin and give it a quick brush to get the inside back to as new. Having used the shaver wet it's similarly easy to clean after using shaving foam- pop the lid and run under the cold tap with a quick brush.2) Cutting performance is a little disappointing. The initial excellent results and close shave have dulled a bit over the weeks, presumably as the blades have had the initially sharp edge taken off them. The shaver still works well but I had hoped to get 6-12 months of really good performance before seeing this sort of drop off. It's still a very comfortable shaver to use and leaves next to no shaving rash despite me having sensitive skin.As a result of the above I've knocked one star off

Light, solid and shaves very close to wet-shaving closeness.
I am a wet-shaver but ocassionally use an electric when in hurry and where finish is less important. This Philips 8000 shaver replaces a top-of-range Remington (at the time purchased ) that I have had for 10+ years and love - I am only replacing this because sometimes (rarely) Remington can irritate my skin if I use too long.Well........ I am very impressed...... The Pilips is VERY nearly as good as wet-shaving in closeness. So I may be using it more frequently instead of wet-shaving. It gives a much closer shave than the older Remington. It's light but feels solid and is very comfortable on my skin - no irritation so far. Very pleased with it so far. Have also ordered the quick clean pod to go with it.

Good Shaver with Many Features
The double cutting system is certainly an improvement on my older single cutting system. Comes with pop out trimmer and slot on nose trimmer. I was unsure about the more squared off head shape but so far so good. Charges must faster than my old Phillips shaver. It would be great to have a travel case included but not that much of an issue as I am buying separately through Amazon quite reasonably. Compared with the top of the range model this is much more economical and works really well.

As good as DE wet shaving
Very silent and fast its as good as wet shaving with DE across the grain, been wet shaving for over 15 years. No irritation as long as you don't over do it.Good battery life and easy to clean, less mess and less noisy than my Braun 9, lightweight good size and design. Had to return it as I only shave once every 10-15days. Got philips oneblade now.

Pretty good when on a big discount
Spent 6 months waiting for the price to drop as this seemed the best value high spec Philips. Had it now for a month. Cuts very well on the face of a 50 year old. Good around tricky neck hairs. Battery could be better but no issues and charges quickly. Feels premium. Easy to clean. Not bothered with app. Almost as close as wet shave. Wait till 60-70% off full price is my advice as it does fluctuate quite regularly.
