Roland Foods Roasted Eggplant Puree, Specialty Imported Food, 6.25 Pound Can, Pack of 1

Ok so I took the plunge and spent my scarce energy uncanning some of this stuff and freezing it in batches in brand new containers. NO REGRETS omg it's delicious. I've mostly eaten it either STRAIGHT UP/with salt and everything seasoning--yes it's THAT GOOD--or with tahini and olive oil and the closest I can get to proper baba ghanoush spices.Full disclosure so FAR I''ve only just tried it like that or dumped this into soups I'm microwaving in a jar (to beef it up with leftover eg frozen beans or tinned fish plus this).

Too many people do not know much about eggplant, especially how good it tastes: fried or grilled or roasted. For me it was a big pleasant surprise. I like to try new tastes and textures. I think it has been a lucky find, that is to discover eggplant ready to eat, in cans or jars, already prepared with appropriate seasoning. I saved the beginner's trial and error. Next I will try it fresh, from the produce dept. in local grocery store, but grocery stores rarely have any eggplants in stock. Eggplant has earned a place on my home's mandatory supply list.The only improvement that I suggest is to make Roland Foods Eggplant Puree available in smaller containers instead of the large 6 pound can. That is restaurant or cafeteria size. I wanted to try it out urgently enough to under take a search on Amazon for new food storage containers of the type used for left overs. I went to Amazon to find the perfect way to divide up the six pound contents, into multiple containers. and put them in my freezer. I was lucky to find the perfect solution: Ziplock "Twist n Lock" Medium Round ", and I ordered two twin packs. I used the four containers for the contents. These containers are cylindrical like a jar, and they are wide mouthed, easy to fill, and have an easy to on screw on lid. I am using my second re-usable left over container now and this system is working perfectly.

It’s a very good taste

I bought this as gift to give to someone along with some tahini I wasn't using soon enough but the tahini seemed like too puny of a gift. The recipient of the gift had not used either the tahini or this for baba ganoush when I asked them after about a year had passed. I think if they ever use it, if it's not good, it will not be the fault of this eggplant. It was a giant sized can too and I was hoping they would make a feast and I would be invited and would get to eat some of everything. My plan did not work out. I'm going to bestow 3/5 stars because It wasn't cheap and I don't want to over or under commit with the recommendation since I don't know anything about what it's like once you open it. Probably pretty gnarly by now. Don't let this happen to you. Not to judge but it is sinful to waste food. I should have stayed on top of the tahini and then kept this for myself.

It’s very tasty, but it’s a little bit watery. I wish it was a bit more thick.. It is also have a little extra lemon taste in it.. I wish it was little bit lesser tarty in days. Otherwise it’s perfect.

My first can of eggplant puree was gifted to me last Christmas. I didn't open it for over a month for fear it wouldn't keep well! I was soon using more eggplant puree than salsa, using about a can a month just for two of us (my husband thinks he doesn't like eggplant), dividing it into 3 1-quart containers, and freezing some. I like to mix it with green salsa or roasted green chilies. It keeps nicely even in the refrigerator for about a month. Good on eggs, potatoes, other veggies, rice or barley, chicken, and fish; great in sauces, dips (such as Baba Ganoush), etc. The little bits of charred skin add flavor but are easy to pick out if you don't like how they look. I have gifted a can to several people in appreciation for their hospitality. You can't beat Prime's free shipping for this heavy item. I get it monthly through Subscribe & Save.Sometimes I get an extra can as I do not want ever to run out! I recently went on a VERY low salt diet, so I am keeping my consumption of this eggplant at or below 2 ounces per day now.

I ordered it 2 times before and got very bent can, couldn't try it. This time I got a perfect can. It tastes exactly as I would make it, but I don't have a grill. I add it to tomato salad or mix with mayo , my son's favorite.
